1. Capping Station, or Parking Station

The capping station is responsible for moisturizing the printhead when the printer is idle or undergoing maintenance. The term "cap" commonly refers to covering or closing something, which is why the capping station earns its name—it seals the printhead using a pad made of rubber or silicone, preventing it from drying out or becoming contaminated by dust.Several key points about the capping station warrant special attention:

Wiper Blade: Typically, the wiper blade is positioned next to the capping station and performs the initial step in printhead cleaning. It scrapes off residual waste ink from the printhead nozzles before they are sealed by the capping station's pad. A wiper blade that isn't regularly cleaned can result in a clogged printhead and suboptimal printing quality.

Sealing Pad: The sealing pad is a crucial component of the capping mechanism. During printhead sealing, it comes into direct contact with the printhead nozzles and can accumulate ink residues. Regular cleaning to remove these buildups helps maintain the pad's cleanliness and reduces the risk of printhead clogging.

Waste Ink Pad: The waste ink pad is typically located at the bottom of the capping station. It functions as a collector, absorbing waste ink from both the wiper blade and the sealing pad, and then directing it to the waste ink bottle. Each waste ink pad has a pre-set maximum usage limit. Once this limit is reached, the pad requires replacement or reset.

The maintenance of the capping station primarily involves cleaning ink residues from both the wiper blade and the sealing pad. As highlighted in most Procolored tutorials, it is highly recommended to use a moisturizing cleanser rather than alcohol for this cleaning. Unlike water or moisturizing cleansers, alcohol evaporates more quickly and can accelerate the drying of ink residues, potentially leading to nozzle clogging issues.

2. Drive Belt

How to Recognize a Drive Belt? A drive belt can be identified as the ribbon that circles around two or more pulleys or wheels. Typically made of rubber or a similar durable material, it functions to transfer rotational motion from the motor to other moving parts, such as the printhead assembly or paper feed rollers.Although drive belts seldom come into direct contact with ink or nozzles, they still require regular cleaning to remove any foreign objects like excessive dust or large paper particles. This maintenance helps prevent potential printer malfunctions caused by increased frictional resistance. For most Procolored printers, the drive belt is secured with a belt fixing plate during transportation to protect it from accidental distortion or pressing. When setting up the printer, remember to gently remove this plate to ensure smooth operation and optimal printing performance.

3. Encoder Strip

Encoder Strip MaintenanceThe encoder strip is a sensitive component featuring numerous magnetic strips. It plays a crucial role in translating printing tasks and confirming print positions by sending instructions to the printhead. Contaminants such as fingerprints, lint, or fibers from tissue paper can impair its sensitivity, leading to inaccurate prints. To avoid such issues, we highly recommend regular cleaning of the encoder strip using a lint-free cloth and alcohol. This ensures its cleanliness and maintains printing accuracy.

4. Guide Rail

Guide Rail Overview and MaintenanceA guide rail is a rigid, straight bar that spans the width of the printer, serving as a track for the printhead assembly to move back and forth. Typically constructed from metal or strong, durable plastic, the guide rail ensures stability and longevity in its operation.Given its material and function, the guide rail requires regular lubrication with oil to ensure the smooth movement of the printhead assembly. Unlike other printer components, proper lubrication is essential for maintaining optimal performance and preventing wear over time.

5. Ink Cartridge, or Ink Damper

For all Procolored printers, the ink cartridge can also be referred to as an ink damper. An ink cartridge is a replaceable component that houses the ink used by the printer to produce text and images on various printing media. Designed for easy installation and removal, it allows users to conveniently replace it when the ink runs out.Extra attention is required during both the setup and maintenance of the printer to ensure optimal performance of the ink cartridge. Proper handling helps maintain print quality and prevents potential issues.

Initial Ink Setup for a New Printer: After adding ink to a new printer, it is necessary to extract 5-10 ml of ink from each cartridge to expel any excess air. This step ensures optimal performance and helps prevent printing issues caused by air bubbles.

Troubleshooting Ink Supply and Color Deviation IssuesIf: these problems may be caused by clogged nozzles, insufficient ink levels, expired ink, or internal disorder within the ink cartridges. One effective solution is to extract 5 ml of ink from each cartridge. This process can help increase ink flow dynamics and recalibrate colors, thereby improving print quality.

How to Handle an Ink CartridgeAs repeatedly emphasized in most Procolored tutorials, it is crucial to handle ink cartridges correctly to prevent accidental leaks and damage. Always hold the ink cartridge upright with the extraction hole facing upward. Additionally, avoid pressing or squeezing the cartridge, as this could cause it to burst.

6. Print Carriage, or Printhead Assembly

Print Carriage and Printhead AssemblyThe terms "print carriage" and "printhead assembly" typically refer to the same part of a printer, encompassing the printhead and related components such as ink channels, nozzles, and sometimes the ink cartridges or ink supply system. In most Procolored instructions and tutorial videos, we prefer using the term "printhead assembly."The printhead controls the release of ink in the correct colors and precise locations, playing a crucial role in print quality and reliability. While other components like ink cartridges, paper feed mechanisms, and control electronics are also important, the printhead's direct impact on printed output makes it a key component. For all Procolored printers, the ink cartridges and nozzles are integrated into the printhead assembly, making maintenance both convenient and essential. To ensure the printhead remains in optimal working condition, all Procolored printers are equipped with an automatic printhead cleaning function that activates every 10 hours when the printer is idle. Additionally, we recommend users manually clean the bottom of the printhead with a moisturizing fluid (not alcohol) periodically to maintain comprehensive machine upkeep.
